Google-owner Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has started to use drones to make deliveries for Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Walmart says the partnership, which is with Alphabet’s drone business Wing, will allow it to deliver to an additional 60,000 homes.
The drones will pick up orders from Walmart’s Supercenter in Frisco with the service expanding to a second store by the end of the year.
Homes within six miles of the stores will be able to use the service with Wing saying deliveries will arrive within 30 minutes.
Operators will monitor the deliveries, though Wing said the drones are highly automated.
Walmart already uses other companies for drone deliveries in 36 stores across seven states.
Wing said it is working with Walmart to deliver a full range of products, including items as delicate as eggs, six days a week.
