Nordstrom 2Q sales slump anticipated amid Canadian operation wind-down

Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE:JWN) is expected to report lower sales and profits for the second quarter when compared to the same period in 2022 when the fashion retailer hands down its latest financial results on Thursday, August 24.

Curbed consumer spending due to the current macroeconomic environment is expected to weigh on Nordstrom’s performance during the quarter.

Management also expects the impacts of Nordstrom’s wind-down of its Canadian operations to impact revenue throughout 2023.

For 2Q, Wall Street analysts expect the company to report a 10.5% drop in sales from $4.1 billion in the year-ago quarter to $3.67 billion.

Earnings per share are forecast at $0.45, down from $0.81 for the same three-month period in 2022, according to Zacks Consensus Estimate.

Nordstrom shares traded 2.8% higher at US$17.68 on Wednesday afternoon. The stock is up 12% in the year to date.
