Waitrose launches meal deal with high-end price to match

Waitrose has launched a £5 meal deal, priced above rivals', in a new bid to tempt shoppers

Waitrose has announced it will be launching a meal deal at the end of August, offering time-strapped or money-conscious customers a convenient snack, sandwich and drink trio deal.

Shoppers will be able to pick between a range of sandwiches, sushi dishes, wraps and salads as part of the £5 meal deal, which will hit shelves on Wednesday 30 August.

“We know lots of our customers are heading into our shops to grab something for their lunch, so to be able to offer them a convenient, high-quality and great value meal deal is really important for us,” Waitrose’s Jennifer Moscardini said.

Exciting news to share???? On the 30th August we're launching a new £5 meal deal! Customers can opt for one of our sandwiches, wraps or salads, or sushi (from a selected range), along with a choice of snack and a drink???? Though it comes as supermarkets scramble to tempt customers with new offers and price cuts, Waitrose’s meal deal sits above rivals' in terms of price.

Tesco PLC (LSE:TSCO), J Sainsbury PLC (LSE:SBRY), The Co-operative Group and Wm Morrison Supermarkets all offer meal deals for £4 or less, including cheaper deals for customers with loyalty cards, with Waitrose’s offer in line with rivals’ premium combos.

Waitrose itself has moved to cut prices this year meanwhile, announcing reductions on hundreds of items in February.
