Royal Mail to tackle parcel delivery headache through app

Royal Mail is setting up a safe parcel delivery scheme to tackle the problem of deliveries being left in plain sight in a front garden when a householder is out.

Using the Royal Mail app, residents can nominate an enclosed porch, greenhouse, shed, garage or outbuilding or alternatively specify another place.

Once nominated, Royal Mail said the service will apply to all future parcel deliveries that can’t fit through the letterbox and don’t require a signature.

Nick Landon, chief commercial officer, said the postal service was giving everyone the ability to record their favourite safe place on the Royal Mail app.

“It won’t stop there though. We are working on additional options to make deliveries even more convenient, such as a preferred neighbouring address and additional options for customers with accessibility needs.”

Royal Mail is part of International Distributions Services PLC (LSE:IDS).
