Fireweed Metals Corp (TSX-V:FWZ, OTCQB:FWEDF) announced it has intersected multiple extensive zones of high-grade zinc, lead, and silver mineralization within a sediment-hosted massive sulphide system at the Boundary Zone on its Macmillan Pass project.
Among the highlights of the results include one drill hole that intersected an upper zone of 82.5 meters (15 meters true width) grading 11.9% zinc, 2.2% lead, and 81.2 grams per ton (g/t) silver, including 27.03 meters (4.9 meters true width) at 26.7% zinc, 4.2% lead, and 165.2 g/t silver.
Additionally, a separate lower zone was encountered, measuring 118 meters (40 meters true width) with grades of 15.1% zinc, 2.8% lead, and 85.8 g/t silver, which included 77.07 meters (26 meters true width) at 18.7% zinc, 3.5% lead, and 101.4 g/t silver.
Altogether, zinc values from other holes ranged between 6% and 12%.
Drilling is ongoing in areas where the zone remains open at depth, Fireweed said in a statement. Notably, the drilling in the Boundary Zone has shown a continuation of high-grade mineralization and supports the idea that laminated and massive sulphide mineralization are part of the same geological layer, forming a stratiform zone.
Fireweed’s 2023 drill program is in full swing, with five diamond drill-rigs targeting approximately 22,000 meters of drilling, primarily focused on Boundary, Tom, and Jason zones. Early results show drilling rates outperforming historical performance, allowing the Vancouver-based company to complete a significant portion of the planned drilling ahead of schedule and providing opportunities to explore additional targets.
CEO Brandon Macdonald called it “our largest field season ever,” lauding the “spectacular grade and widths of mineralization” at the Boundary Zone.
“The results from NB23-007 include two intersections which continue to demonstrate the world-class potential of mineralization at Boundary Zone,” Macdonald said. “These results show continuity with, and even eclipse NB22-002, formerly Fireweed’s best-ever drillhole, in terms of grade and length of mineralization.”
Fireweed has three projects in Canada: the Macmillan Pass zinc-lead-silver project, the Mactung tungsten project and the Gayna River zinc-lead-gallium-germanium project.
