Bloomsbury Publishing celebrates new best-seller from Ann Patchett

Bloomsbury Publishing PLC (LSE:BMY) has hailed the "phenomenon" that is author Ann Patchett as her latest book vaulted onto the bestseller list.

The novel, Tom Lake, climbed onto the Sunday Times bestseller list after it was launched earlier this month.

Bloomsbury also published an audiobook version read by Hollywood actress Meryl Streep, following Tom Hanks reading Patchett's previous tome, The Dutch House.

The consumer and academic publisher noted that the book had been tipped by actress Reese Witherspoon's book club as well as on BBC Radio 2.

Nigel Newton, Bloomsbury's chief executive, said: "We are delighted to be Ann Patchett's publisher. She is a phenomenon with a huge following on both sides of the Atlantic.

"Our publicity team has thrown the kitchen sink at this since the launch a fortnight ago and we are excited to be seeing these efforts turning into a new bestseller."

Bloomsbury continued to highlight that books remain an affordable leisure pastime amid cost of living pressures, with successes of novels such Tom Lake and the growth of the company in recent years "serve as a reminder of the company's strengths and resilience regardless of external macro-economic factors".
