Energy One hit by data breach; Australia and UK operations affected

Leading energy industry software provider Energy One has confirmed a data breach on August 18, affecting operations in Australia and the UK.

In an official statement released yesterday, the ASX-lister indicated that “certain corporate systems in Australia and the United Kingdom” had been compromised in the cyber incident.

To address the situation, Energy One reported the breach to the Australian Cyber Security Centre and the UK authorities and has since sought the expertise of CyberCX for assistance.

The company underscored its proactive measures in response to the breach, stating: “Energy One took immediate steps to limit the impact of the incident.” As part of the mitigation, some connections “between its corporate and customer-facing systems” were temporarily disabled.

The extent of the data breach is still being assessed. The company remarked, “Analysis is underway to identify which, if any, additional systems may have been affected by the cyber attack.”

Furthermore, the ongoing investigation by Energy One will aim to secure its vulnerable systems and determine the nature of information exposed, ascertain which customer systems were impacted and pinpoint the attackers' mode of entry.
