Everyman Media says 'Barbenheimer' boost behind record week

Everyman Media Group PLC (AIM:EMAN) said it enjoyed a record week for admissions last month, driven by the runaway box office successes of 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer'.

That had a knock-on impact on July's takings, which were £10.6 million, up from £7.1 million, while EBITDA doubled to £2.6 million.

"The record week of admissions we saw in July demonstrates both the value of original content and the fact that cinema remains as relevant as ever," said chief executive Alex Scrimgeour.

"Alongside this, we continue to see increasing demand for our high-quality food and beverage offering. The all-encompassing Everyman experience leaves us very well-placed to satisfy consumer demand for premium entertainment."

A slew of follow-on blockbusters are slated for the second half, including 'Dune: Part Two', 'Wonka', 'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes', 'Napoleon', and 'Killers of the Flower Moon'.

For the 26 weeks to 29 June 2023, the picture was a little more subdued. The group reported revenue of £38.3 million, slightly down from £40.7 million in the same period in 2022, while EBITDA was £5.8 million, £1.7 million lower than the same period last year.

That said, Everyman said trading had been in line with expectations.

In the period, it has expanded its footprint, opening three new venues, bringing its total to 41 cinemas. Everyman Media plans to inaugurate a two-screen venue in Marlow this October, with a robust pipeline set for 2024.

In a brief financial update, Everyman also announced a new three-year loan facility of £35 million with Barclays Bank PLC and National Westminster Bank PLC, replacing its existing credit arrangements.
