CULT Food Science Corp (CSE:CULT, OTCQB:CULTF) told investors it has developed a hybrid cell-cultivated pet food brand for cats in partnership with Umami Bioworks.
The company said Marina Cat will provide an alternative to raw fishery products used in cat food that have an impact on the oceans, with all the animal-derived nutrition of caught or farmed fish, but none of the harmful environmental impacts of commercial fishing.
The food is a blend of ocean snapper, cultivated by Singapore-based biotech startup Umami Bioworks, and enriched with CULT's Bmmune protein. The result is a high protein, low-calorie snack with super savory umami flavors that cats enjoy, CULT added.
Additionally, high levels of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acid chains provide benefits to a cat's cognitive function, noting that studies have shown that DHA and EPA provided in the treat can boost brain, vision and nervous system development in cats and kittens.
The company said it expects production of Marina Cat to begin later this year, with widespread availability anticipated in 2024.
