The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) could be moving closer to a new contract agreement after the latest proposal from the alliance, which represents the major Hollywood studios, included greater protections for writers regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The proposal, sent to the WGA on Friday, would require human writers to be credited rather than AI, according to a Bloomberg report. Additional protections are also reportedly included.
The offer would also provide writers with more access to viewing data (such as how many hours have been watched on streaming platforms), but it is unclear if this would be linked to compensation.
Importantly, it also includes a “better-than-20% increase” in residual payments for writers when shows appear away from the commissioning network or streamer, Bloomberg reported.
The WGA has been on strike since May 2.
