Roquefort Therapeutics PLC (LSE:ROQ, OTCQB:ROQAF) has announced the successful filing of a global patent for its anti-cancer therapeutics.
Once approved, the international phase PCT (patent treaty cooperation) patent would cover the invention of Roquefort’s RNA oligonucleotide and mRNA therapeutics in over 155 countries, the company said in a statement.
Each of these targets different areas of the Midkine protein in humans and have demonstrated both anti-breast and liver cancer efficacy in tests, Roquefort added.
“mRNA technology promises to revolutionize future treatments for cancer and as such we are delighted that we are part of this cutting-edge field,” chief executive Ajan Reginald said.
“Our focus is to continue to deliver on research and development and commercial milestones that highlight the significant potential of Midkine as a novel cancer target.”
The World Health Organisation governs the PCT patent, with the filing set to enhance Roquefort’s “intellectual property portfolio and leadership position in Midkine”, the London-listed firm added.
Shares climbed 0.2% to 8.27p on the news.
