Coronation 50p to be second coin featuring King Charles

The Royal Mint is to issue five million commemorative 50p coins celebrating May’s coronation of King Charles.

With a flipside of Westminster Abbey, the new Coronation coin is the second mass circulation coin to feature King Charles.

The first King Charles banknotes are expected to enter circulation next year with the plan to use up existing Queen Elizabeth II coins and notes first.

The Royal Mint said the Coronation coin would be popular among "members of the public keen to own a piece of British history".

King Charles's profile follows the tradition of looking in the opposite direction to the coins of his predecessor.
