Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) has batted off Fortnite-maker Epic’s attempt to change App Store payment rules once again, after the US Supreme Court ruled in favour of the former on Wednesday.
Having defeated nine out of 10 claims made by Epic in the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in April, the Supreme Court backed granting Apple time to petition against the final ruling.
This had seen Apple told to grant App Store publishers a way to advertise links to external payment sites on its platform.
However, a July ruling saw Apple granted a 90-day stall on the new rule, giving the tech giant time to petition the Supreme Court to overturn the decision.
On Wednesday, Judge Elena Kagan ultimately denied Epic’s bid to overturn this stall granted to Apple, according to the Supreme Court’s website.
According to Epic, the delay in forcing Apple to grant publishers a way to advertise external, alternative payment methods could “injure […] innumerable consumers and other app developers for a significant period of time”.
This is due to fees the tech giant charges on in-app purchases made through the Apple App Store of up to 30%.
