Finance group S&U PLC (LSE:SUS) said its performance in the final two months of the first half had been resilient in the face of some strong economic headwinds, including reduced consumer confidence, fluctuating disposable incomes and shifts in taxation and interest rates.
Advantage, the company's motor finance arm, saw advance levels fall 11% in the first half in a slower and more price-competitive market.
However, its net receivables as of July end stood at approximately £313 million, marking a 12% increase from the previous year.
"The focus on quality has continued and the average customer risk score continued to improve in [the first half]," the company told investors.
In the AGM statement covering the period from 21 May to 31 July, S&U said the second-half prospects for the car finance division were "good".
Aspen Bridging, focusing on the UK residential property market, has also navigated a challenging environment marked by interest rate hikes and negative media coverage.
Despite these hurdles, its net receivables reached around £104 million by the end of July, and its average pipeline has more than doubled in the current period.
"S&U continues to hone the service it provides to every customer and to ensure wherever possible that this results in outcomes which are both satisfactory and commercially rewarding," said chairman Anthony Coombs.
"Irrespective of the economic climate, we shall continue to do so. Given our expertise and long experience, S&U always takes a positive view of the future, and of our proven ability to provide sustainable rewards to our owners, customers and staff."
