Blue Star investee launches e-sports cricket competition

Blue Star Capital PLC (AIM:BLU), the investment firm, confirmed its investee Googly Media Holdings is teaming up with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) to launch an e-sports tournament to run alongside the Central American cricket competition, a company statement revealed.

CPL's T20 cricket event amasses over 720 million viewers each year. The e-sports tournament will commence on 16 August and will allow fans to participate via Googly, the Indian esports and gaming platform.

Players can pick and represent their favourite CPL teams in a competitive gaming setting, through qualifying rounds on the Googly platform before the event unfolds over seven weeks.

Featuring three stages and a US$25,000 prize pool, the competition will be played on the mobile app World Cricket Championship 3.

Tony Fabrizi, executive chairman of Blue Star Capital, said: "The Indian gaming market continues to enjoy strong growth and Googly's agreement with the Caribbean Premier League is a tremendous launch pad for Googly. We look forward to further announcements on this initiative and many others planned by Googly later this year."

Shares in Blue Star Capital remained flat on Wednesday after opening a little over 0.12p.
