The Afterhours: Apple, Amazon, Draftkings, Booking.com, Coinbase, Airbnb, and more

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock was down 3% after Thursday’s market close, as traders reacted to a 1% softening in revenue on weaker iPhone sales – despite Tim Cook calling it ‘an improved quarter’.

Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) meanwhile impressed, sending its stock more than 8% higher to US$139.50. Bezos’ retailer and web servicer reported an 11% rise in second quarter revenue and at 65 cents the per share earnings metric easily beat market consensus of 35 cents.

Booking Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:BKNG) advanced around 11%, adding US$312 per share to trade at US$3,152. A recovering global travel industry drove a 27% improvement in revenue to an expectation beating US$5.5 billion, whilst earnings were up 66% on the same period last year.

Draftkings Inc (NASDAQ:DKNG) stock shot up in afterhours trading as it reported an 88% jump in second-quarter revenue and earnings ahead of management’s previous expectations. It highlighted a 44% increase in MUPs (that’s monthly unique players) to 2.1 million, meanwhile, revenue per MUP was up 33% at US$137 for the quarter.

Web domain and web-hosting company GoDaddy Inc (NYSE:GDDY), meanwhile, dropped close to 5%, to US$72.00, after its quarterly results fell short of expectations.

Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ:COIN) stock yo-yoed in late trading, as the crypto exchange operator described the second three months of its financial year as a ‘strong quarter of execution’ whilst its positive quarterly earnings were largely driven by cost savings through staff layoffs.

At time of writing, COIN stock was down 1.16% at US$89.70 – having traded between US$100.40 and US$88.00 since the closing bell rung.

Airbnb Inc (NASDAQ:ABNB) second-quarter results beat expectations on the top and bottom lines, and the company issued promising guidance lifted by increasing international travel. The market wasn’t as happy with the apparent improvement as seen elsewhere, over in Booking.com stock. The DIY-hoteliers’ favourite app operator saw its stock down 1% at US$139.40.
