Monster Beverage Corporation unveiled its second-quarter 2023 financial results after the bell Thursday, posting double-digit revenue growth but coming up short of expectations.
Revenue was $1.85 billion, up 12.1% year-over-year but just below Street expectations of $1.87 billion. Earnings were $0.39 per share, up 53% from the year-ago quarter and narrowly ahead of the consensus estimate of $0.37, according to Zacks.
Shares of Monster slipped 1.9% in extended trading to $56.88.
The Monster Energy segment, which encompasses the company’s flagship energy drinks and wellness beverages, saw a 9.7% bump in net sales, reaching $1.69 billion. The strategic brands segment, which includes energy drink brands acquired from Coca-Cola, grew 26.% to $99.7 million.
"We are seeing sustained growth in the energy drink market in the United States, as well as internationally,” co-CEO Hilton H. Schlosberg said in a statement. “We are pleased to report another quarter of continued revenue growth, with record sales for our second fiscal quarter."
Monster recently launched Reign Storm, a wellness energy drink, and The Beast Unleashed, a flavored malt beverage alcohol product.
