Airbnb issues strong 3Q guidance based on positive international travel trends

Airbnb’s second-quarter results beat expectations on the top and bottom lines, and the company issued promising guidance lifted by increasing international travel.

The property rental company posted revenue of $2.5 million, 18.1% higher year-over-year and above expectations of $2.42 million. Earnings were $0.98 per share, up from $0.56 a year earlier and topping expectations of $0.80.

However, Airbnb’s average daily rate (ADR) improved just 1% in the quarter to $166. In North America, ADR fell 1%.

After an initial dip, Airbnb shares rallied 0.8% in extended trading to $142.

Looking ahead, Airbnb is banking on a boost from international travel, noting that cross-border travel to the Asia Pacifc region increased more than 80% in the second quarter.

The company projected third-quarter revenue between $3.3 billion and $3.4 billion, above Street estimates of $3.22 billion.
