EQTEC PLC (AIM:EQT) said it has successfully completed steam-oxygen gasification tests at research facility LERMAB as part of the feasibility work on the Biogaz Gardanne biomass project in France.
Yoel Alemán, EQTEC's chief technical officer, commented: "These tests represent an important milestone for EQTEC in our technology innovation roadmap.
“The development of a steam-oxygen gasification process is key to the application of EQTEC syngas to the generation of a diversity of offtakes including hydrogen, methane or other biofuels (including sustainable aviation fuel or SAF), from a wide range of fuels including biomass, refuse-derived fuel (RDF), plastics and others."
LERMAB’s facility at the Université de Lorraine is a smaller version of a commercial-scale plant, EQTEC added, and the tests confirmed its steam-oxygen gasification technology can be directly applied at scale.
The technology demonstrated continuous, efficient and productive conversion of Grade B waste wood, it said, matching the simulation model and with the syngas produced containing much larger hydrogen quantities than traditional gasification methods.
Alemán added: "There are few successful steam-oxygen gasification facilities in the world, and we believe our success with these tests puts us at the forefront of clean, waste-to-value capabilities.”
