Netflix is looking to add a machine learning product manager to its roster to advance its artificial intelligence (AI) efforts, with total compensation for the role listed as $300,000 to $900,000.
The job posting comes as film and television writers and actors concurrently strike after contract negotiations with Hollywood studios broke down over a number of issues, including how studios intend to use AI in productions.
Based in Netflix’s Los Gatos office in California or remotely on the US West Coast, the product manager will advance the company’s machine learning platform (MLP).
“Machine learning/AI is powering innovation, from personalization for members, to optimizing our payment processing and other revenue-focused initiatives. The MLP provides the foundation for all of this innovation,” the company said in the job post.
The duties listed include defining the strategic vision for Netflix’s MLP in line with its broader business objectives, prioritizing areas of investment based on feedback from engineers, creating programs for user education and support, and keeping on top of industry trends.
Candidates need to have a background in engineering and machine learning, among other qualifications.
It is unclear from the job posting if Netflix intends to use AI to generate content or if this position will play a role in that.
The platform already uses AI to offer users personalized recommendations and its Japanese division came under scrutiny earlier this year for using AI to generate background art for its animated short film The Dog and The Boy.
Netflix is also currently seeking to fill other AI-related positions, including searching for a machine learning scientist to drive content localization and a software engineer to build machine learning tools.
