ITM Power PLC (AIM:ITM), a leading manufacturer of integrated hydrogen energy solutions, has announced a strategic collaboration with the inventor of Gore-Tex to enhance the performance and longevity of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE).
The partnership with US giant W. L. Gore & Associates aims to leverage each company's expertise and capabilities in science and technology, including ITM's world-class electrolyser testing facilities.
The proton exchange membrane, a crucial component of the electrolyser stack, separates hydrogen and oxygen and transports protons from the anode to the cathode.
Its capability and interactions with other cell and stack components during assembly and operation make it a key determinant of stack performance and longevity.
Dennis Schulz, CEO of ITM Power, told investors: "We are delighted to elevate our collaboration with Gore to the next level. Their understanding of membranes and their product quality and reliability are market-leading, and by forging ahead with this alliance, we are further cementing our technology leadership whilst at the same time ensuring that a key part of our supply chain is future-proof as we scale up."
