Twitter to rebrand as it changes logo to 'X'

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is replacing its blue bird logo and planning to rename itself with “X”, Elon Musk revealed on Sunday.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”

Musk asked users of the social media app to provide him with a replacement logo and confirmed that x.com would now point to Twitter.com.

Linda Yaccarino, chief executive officer of the platform, said: “Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

She said X plans to bring things like payments, banking, audio and video into one app, all powered by AI.

Shortly after, Musk changed both his and Twitter’s account picture to the new “interim logo”.

The announcement coincides with the launch of Musk’s newest venture “xAI”, a rival to the likes of ChatGPT and Google Bard, which aims to tackle some of the universe’s deepest questions.

Earlier this month, Facebook founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg launched Threads, a Twitter alternative aimed at taking advantage of a number of users who left the app in response to a series of Musk-led changes.
