OptionsDesk broker Richard Perry speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive at the end of a frenetic week in the markets that saw the FTSE 100 climb to two-month highs.
Perry discusses the recent market developments and highlights the impact of softer inflation data on the UK market, specifically the FTSE 250 registering a sharp rise during the midweek session.
He notes that the volume of options trades increases at times of volatility with clients adjusting their trading strategies based on market moves. When asked about his retrospective ideal trade for the week, Richard suggests a long call on the FTSE, considering its strong performance.
Looking ahead, Perry says he'll be keeping a close eye on the upcoming interest rate decision from the European Central Bank (ECB) and some global PMI data which can offer insights into economic trends during July.
He says next week's global PMI data for services and industry will "give us a little bit more of a clearer picture... looking toward the industrial behemoths such as the China and the US to see how they're fairing and whether there's growth in those sectors."
