Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) saw its Prime Day sales reach record levels this year, helped by a surge in sales of stationery and office supplies, according to Adobe Analytics data.
The internet retailer's US online sales rose to US$12.7bln over the two-day period, jumping by 6.1% compared to last year.
Research analysts claimed the 2023 event offered “deeper” discounts than in previous years.
Over the course of the event, customers bought 375mln items worldwide which provided total savings worth more than US$2.5bln.
During the firm's second Prime Day, there was a lift in sales of back-to-school items like stationery and office supplies, according to Vivek Pandya, lead analyst at Adobe Analytics.
"The numbers came in the range that we anticipated," he said.
Sales of stationary and office supplies rose by 76% during Prime Day when compared to average volumes during June, the analyst added.
Appliances and apparel also proved popular, with sales jumping by 52% and 24% respectively.
The average cost of a basket over the event reached US$54.05 from US$52.26 last year, data from Numerator revealed.
After the first day of the July 11 and July 12 promotional event, Amazon had already experienced record transactions, marking it as the largest day of sales for the company ever.
