Emmaus Life Sciences Inc (OTCQX:EMMA) announced that it has received marketing authorization from the Ministry of Health in Oman for the commercial distribution and sale of Endari (L-glutamine oral powder) in the country to treat sickle cell disease in patients five years of age and older.
The commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company said the sickle cell disease treatment is now commercially available in five Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
“We are delighted to receive marketing authorization for Endari in Oman, where sickle cell disease is a significant public health issue that affects thousands of patients and their families,” Emmaus Life Sciences CEO Dr Yutaka Niihara said in a statement.
“This approval marks another milestone in our mission to improve the lives of people with sickle cell disease around the world,” Niihara added.
Emmaus noted there are about 3,000 patients with sickle cell disorders in Oman, while approximately 6% of Omanis are carriers of the gene for sickle cell anaemia.
Endari is also approved for marketing in the US, Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates and is available on a named patient or early access basis in France, The Netherlands, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to the company.
Emmaus added that it is pursuing additional regulatory approvals for Endari in other countries where sickle cell disease is prevalent.
