Fastenal shares slip as 2Q earnings fall short of expectations

Fastenal Company (NASDAQ:FAST) shares moved lower after it reported a second quarter earnings miss as the wholesale distributor of industrial and construction supplies continues to recover from supply chain disruptions.

It posted earnings per share of $0.52, below the Street’s expectation of $0.53.

Revenue of $1.88 billion was also just below analysts’ forecast of $1.89 billion.

In the year-ago quarter, the company posted earnings per share of $0.50 on revenue of $1.78 billion.

The company said that its year-over-year revenue growth at its Onsite locations, particularly those opened in the last two years, more than offset lower revenues in construction and reseller end markets related to the execution of its go-to-market branch strategy.

Foreign exchange negatively affected sales in the second quarter of 2023 by approximately 40 basis points, Fastenal noted.

Fastenal shares fell 2.4% to US$57.30 late morning on Thursday.
