Virgin Galactic Holdings Inc (NYSE:SPCE) will fly its first three private astronauts to the edge of space on 10 August, it said.
The space tourism company, which has sold around 800 tickets for commercial flights so far, did not divulge who the customers would be, only that it would be a "dynamic and inspiring crew" that will "showcase the importance over moving week the barriers of entry to human space flight".
Having completed its first commercial flight last month, where its customers were members of the Italian Airforce on a scientific research mission, it said next month's flight will be its first private astronaut mission. The flight window will open on 10 August and the flight will be livestreamed on the company's website and on Youtube.
It will be the company's third space flight this year and the seventh overall, following several years of testing since being founded in 2004 and going public in 2020.
The company, which has sold roughly 600 tickets at prices up to $250,000 and the rest at $450,000 per ticket, flies passengers in its VSS Unity rocket to an altitude of around 280,000 feet (53 miles, 85 kilometres).
Elsewhere in space tourism, Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin has taken customers tourists slightly higher, but has been on a hiatus after a cargo-only mission failed in late 2022. It recently said it was looking to begin making customer flights again, including launching from outside the US.
