Great Southern Copper PLC (LSE:GSCU) said it has picked up high-grade rock chip samples from its Teresita prospect at Especularita in Chile.
Best of the grades from the 160 samples included 5.97% copper and 13.7 grammes per tonne (g/t) gold, it said, with high-grade mineralisation hosted in outcropping quartz-carbonate vein-breccias.
Mapping suggests the strike length might be 5km and Great Southern, subsequently, has increased its acreage in the area,
More assays from rock chip samples and orientation soil are due shortly but plans and permits are already being drawn up for a scout drill programme.
Sam Garrett, chief executive, said he was confident the next stage of work would translate into drill targets for multiple deposit types of high-grade copper and gold mineralisation.
Previous reconnaissance exploration at Especularita identified high-grade mineralisation associated with vein-breccias with reported assay grades at up to 7.22% copper and 13.1g/t gold.
