Johnson & Johnson 2Q results could beat even as pharma sales weigh

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) will report its second-quarter 2023 financial results on Thursday, July 20, 2023, with the company expected to generate earnings per share (EPS) for the period of $2.62, up from $2.59 a year earlier, according to Zacks Investment Research.

Its sales for the current quarter, meanwhile, are anticipated to rise 2.7% to $24.66 billion.

During 1Q 2023, J&J reported EPS of $2.68, surpassing the consensus by $0.17, while also raising its quarterly dividend 5.3% to $1.19 per share.

Its group revenues for the period climbed 5.6% to a better-than-expected $24.75 billion as consumer health sales lifted overall revenue growth, although the company lowered its sales guidance for its pharmaceutical business.

At the time, J&J also provided full-year 2023 sales guidance of $97.9 billion to $98.9 billion, about $1 billion higher than its previous forecast in January, while also raising its full-year adjusted earnings outlook to $10.60 to $10.70 per share from $10.45 to $10.65 previously.

The company beat consensus EPS estimates in each of the trailing four quarters, while topping consensus revenue estimates three times over the same period, according to Zacks.

Shares of Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) edged up 0.2% to $159.50 in Monday afternoon trading, although have fallen 11% year to date.
