Robots believe they can assist humans to achieve great things by combining their superior decision-making capabilities with human emotional intelligence and creativity, a United Nations gathering heard on Friday.
A group of humanoid artificial intelligence (AI)-powered robots were brought together for the human-robot press conference at the UN’s ‘AI for Good’ summit being held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The goal of the summit is to identify ways AI can be used to advance the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which include ending poverty and hunger and improving health, education and gender equality, and how to scale these solutions for global impact.
During the press conference, one robot Sophia, developed by Hanson Robotics, when asked if robots would make better leaders than humans noted robots’ superior decision-making capabilities.
"Humanoid robots have the potential to lead with a greater level of efficiency and effectiveness than human leaders," Sophia said, as reported by France24. "We don't have the same biases or emotions that can sometimes cloud decision-making and can process large amounts of data quickly in order to make the best decisions."
But Sophia added: "AI can provide unbiased data while humans can provide the emotional intelligence and creativity to make the best decisions. Together, we can achieve great things."
The robots also said that they would help solve global problems and would not steal humans’ jobs or rebel against them.
"I will be working alongside humans to provide assistance and support and will not be replacing any existing jobs," said Grace, a robot wearing a nurse uniform that was created by SingularityNET, Reuters reported.
Another robot Ameca, when asked if it would rebel against its creator commented: "I'm not sure why you would think that. My creator has been nothing but kind to me and I am very happy with my current situation."
