Authorities in the US are clamping down on cannabis companies that are creating edibles to look like everyday snacks.
Six weed firms have been sent cease and desist letters from the FDA and the FTC as part of the regulator's plan to clamp down on “health-related advertising claims”.
Cannabis-infused products were packaged to look like snacks such as Doritos, Cheetos and Nerds sweets, according to a letter from the FTC.
“Marketing edible THC products that can be easily mistaken by children for regular foods is reckless and illegal,” Samuel Levine, director of consumer protection at the FTC, said.

Janet Woodcock, managing director at FDA added that some children had been hospitalised after mistaking the edibles for normal snacks, emphasising the need for tighter regulation.
“[The edibles] can be easily mistaken for popular foods that are appealing to children and can make it easy for a young child to ingest in very high doses without realizing it,” Woodcock said.
