A tweet by Entain-owned Ladbrokes featuring Jake Paul has been banned by a regulator as it risks enticing teenagers towards gambling.
The social media star lost his boxing match to Tommy Fury in March, prompting the gambling firm to tweet a photo of the Paul brother.
Below the photo, the caption read: “@TommyTNTFury beat @JakePaul by split decision last night. So, we’ve got to ask the question… What’s next for Jake Paul? Vote here now.”
It was followed by a poll with options: “Win the re-match”, “Head to the MMA”, “Return to YouTube” and “Join the WWE”.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) opened an investigation as it believed the tweet could appeal strongly to under-18s.
Ladbrokes responded back arguing the advert didn’t include any “calls to action”, links to its website or promotional offers.
It added that under-18s shouldn’t have been able to access the tweet because Ladbrokes’ account is age-gated.
The ASA responded by claiming the US celebrity is of “inherent strong appeal to under-18s”.
“For those reasons, we considered that the ad was irresponsible and breached the Code,” the ASA concluded.
