Yahoo! plans multi-billion dollar IPO

Yahoo! is set to make a return to public markets through an initial public offering (IPO), according to its chief executive Jim Lanzone's interview with the Financial Times.

Having undergone significant structural alterations, the internet giant is financially prepared for the transition, already proving profitable and sporting a healthy balance sheet, the CEO said.

The private nature of the company has allowed for these essential transformations, shaping the organization into distinct business units in a manner akin to Lanzone's time at CBS (NYSE:CBS) Interactive.

Lanzone was appointed after Verizon spun off Yahoo! in September 2021, aiming to rejuvenate the company's independence.

Yahoo! has endured a series of ups and downs, suffering significant market share losses to competitors like Google and Facebook.

However, despite these challenges, the company still ranks among the top five globally in total traffic, offering more than 30 titles or business units, with key segments branded as Yahoo (finance, sports, news, mail), and other sites such as TechCrunch.

The company is exploring merger and acquisition opportunities in related sectors and recently added the sports betting app Wagr to its portfolio.
