Elon Musk has enraged Twitter users yet again by seemingly mocking them after introducing a limit on the number of reads allowed per account
In a tweet, the Tesla chief executive and Twitter boss, pointed out the “irony” of people hitting their new limit because they were complaining about the new rules.
"Rate limited due to reading all the posts about rate limits," he tweeted.
However, having set a reading limit initially of 6,000 posts a day, he subsequently raised that bar to 8,000 and then 10,000.
For those who don’t pay for the service or non-blue tick customers, the limit is 1,000 reads daily with new accounts limited to 500.
Users became started complaining about the new rules as they became aware of them over the weekend.
"You awake from a deep trance, step away from the phone to see your friends and family," Musk said in another tweet.
Musk, who last week was pictured in training for a cage fight with Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg, said the new limits had been introduced because of extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation.
Twitter has been on a roller coaster ever since Musk took over the business for US$44bn in October last year with mass sackings, a new paid-for subscription blue tick service and chief executive Linda Yaccarino appointed in May, though the SpaceX/Tesla boss is still executive chairman.
Earlier in the day, Twitter was issued a A$1mln writ by an Australian firm facilitate for not paying its invoices.
Facilitate, which has filed its case in California is also claiming damages for the non-payment.
Twitter was recently sued by the Crown Estate in the UK for non-payment of rent on its UK HQ.
