Aldi has joined in the current round of milk price cuts, chopping the price of a four-pint bottle of milk by 10p to £1.45.
Two-pint bottles will also see a reduction from £1.25 to £1.20, while six-pint milk will be dropped in price from £2.30 to £2.15.
Aldi’s move follows another round of price cuts at Sainsbury’s, which also cut the price of its own-brand milk range to £1.45 for four pints and £1.20 for two.
Milk has been a favourite promotional product for supermarkets, which have come under fierce criticism for the high rate of food price inflation and how much profit they are making from it.
Ocado and its partner Marks & Spencer kicked off this latest round of reductions yesterday when it lowered prices on 100 ‘essential’ products including milk, which dropped to £1.45 for four pints.
Wholesale prices for milk have fallen, which has prompted the price cuts, but critics point out that the UN global food price index has also been falling for almost year with no impact so far on what food manufacturers and supermarkets charge.
Earlier today, Tesco too announced it was cutting prices on a range of 500 products by an average of 13% suggesting there is scope for movement on pricing.
