FTSE 100 up to end the week - Market Report

Good morning to you from London, where the FTSE 100 is up this morning on stronger-than-expected economic data coming from both the UK and the US.

The ONS say that the revised UK GDP growth figure remained at 0.1% in the first quarter, aided by growth in manufacturing, construction, services and production.

House prices recorded a surprise rise in June, rising 0.1% on May’s figures and leaving average prices at £262,239 according to high street lender Nationwide.

Looking at some individual stocks now, Ocado continues to bounce up and down and is this morning’s biggest gainer.

British Gas owner Centrica rose at the open after announcing capacity at the UK’s already-largest Rough gas storage site had been doubled since its October reopening.

Royal Mail owner International Distribution Services faces scrutiny meanwhile, after charity Citizens Advice estimated some 16mln people were affected by postal delays last month.

And WH Smith boss Carl Cowling said new stores would only be opened in transport hubs and overseas under current company plans
