Wincanton wins three-year contact extension for Public & Industrial arm

Wincanton PLC (LSE:WIN) will more than double the number of staff dedicated to a contract with defence contractor Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) as part of a three-year contract expansion.

On top of the existing warehousing operations services at RBSL’s onsite warehouse in Shropshire, supporting the manufacture of Boxer MIV and the upgrade of Challenger 3 vehicles for the British Army, it will now also provide transport services and packaging manufacturing, providing care and protection for goods.

Wincanton has been working since 2011 with RBSL, a joint venture between BAE Systems PLC (LSE:BA.) and Germany-owned Rheinmetall's UK Defence arm.

The supply chain group said the extension and expansion of the contract will result in it more than doubling the number of its colleagues working with RBSL.

Another element of the contract expansion will see Wincanton also provide design and implementation for additional offsite warehousing space, as well as customs clearance management and inbound control management.

Carl Meewezen, managing director of Wincanton's Public & Industrial business, said the deal "demonstrates Wincanton’s strength in meeting the complex requirements of UK defence engineering"
