OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, is opening a new office in London, the group’s first workspace outside of the US.
Operations in London will focus on research, engineering and ‘go-to-market’ functions.
Diane Yoo, vice president of people at OpenAI, said in a statement: “We are thrilled to extend our research and development footprint into London, a city globally renowned for its rich culture and exceptional talent pool.”
The US tech firm rose to worldwide prominence in late 2023 after launching one of the world’s first widely accessible AI chatbots, forcing industry giants like Google into playing catch up.
Garnering investment of around US$10bln from Microsoft, OpenAI is producing a new iteration of ChatGPT that can analyse images, write more creatively and handle over 25,000 words of text.
New jobs situated in London are being advertised by the firm including roles like account executive and solutions architect.
Over 500 workers are currently employed at OpenAI, according to RocketReach.
This should provide a major boost to the city after social media group Instagram packed up its bags and headed back to the States.
