Holiday package prices jump but demand remains high

Prices of all-inclusive package holidays have jumped in price across Mediterranean hotspots, according to new data, although demand remains high.

The average price of a week for a full board holiday in Majorca jumped 21% according to figures from TravelSupermarket, compiled for the BBC, while the cost of an all-inclusive package in Tenerife jumped 22%.

A holiday in Crete is 25% more expensive than last year.

On average, the prices for popular destinations in Spain, Turkey, Greece, Portugal and Cyprus are up nearly 12%.

Compared to pre-pandemic levels, the average price across the top five destinations is up more than 30%, well above inflation.

According to Sandra Ollerton, who runs a Preston Travel Centre, demand remains high as holiday-goers find smarter ways to travel.

"We're seeing an increase in multi-generational holidays, because we're finding that some of the grandparents weren't affected as much financially by Covid or the cost-of-living crisis, so they are helping out their children and their grandchildren," she said to the BBC.
