Nvidia and Snowflake team up on major new generative AI project

Snowflake’s 8,000 clients will be able to develop their own large-language models

Technology blue chip Nvidia Corporation and data company Snowflake have formed a strategic partnership to enable Snowflake's extensive customer base of over 8,000 businesses to develop their own generative AI assistants using Nvidia tech.

The announcement was made during a discussion between Nvidia chief Jensen Huang and Snowflake chief Frank Slootman at this week’s Snowflake Summit, which is running until Thursday.

This collaboration will allow Snowflake users to construct personalised AI models and chatbots by leveraging their own internal data.

Nvidia, which has emerged as a leader in AI-specific microchip designs, will provide Snowflake with its NeMo cloud-native enterprise framework as well as specialised graphics processing units (GPUs) to facilitate the training of Snowflake’s clients’ generative AI models.

Slootman called the collaboration “a new frontier to bringing unprecedented insights, predictions and prescriptions to the global world of business”.

"Nvidia and Snowflake will establish an AI factory that empowers enterprises to transform their valuable data into custom generative AI models, facilitating the development of groundbreaking applications—directly from the cloud platform they employ to operate their businesses," added Huang.

As a leading in AI-specific microchips, Nvidia has been one of the major benefactors of the recent boom in AI, with shares in the California-based group surging over 180% in 2023 alone.

At the time of writing, the group was valued at one trillion dollars.
