Arecor Therapeutics PLC (AIM:AREC) said it has secured pivotal patent protection for two fast-acting insulin assets, AT278 and AT247.
The European Patent Office has given the green light to a patent (EP3518892) safeguarding the unique formulations of these products.
In an additional boost for the company, the China National Intellectual Property Administration has also granted a patent (CN110582285), further strengthening the protection of AT278 and AT247 internationally.
AT278 ultra-rapid is an ultra-rapid, highly concentrated insulin formulation. This unique combination paves the way for it to potentially become the go-to choice for a rapidly expanding demographic of individuals with high daily insulin needs.
Aerecor believes it will become a significant contributor to the miniaturisation of insulin pumps and the extension of their wear-time.
AT247, on the other hand, stands out with its 'best-in-class' ultra-rapid pharmacokinetic profile.
This characteristic holds the potential to revolutionise insulin delivery systems, paving the way for fully automated options.
"These additional granted patents aim to serve and protect Arecor's innovative technologies in these important markets," said Dr Jan Jezek, Arecor's chief scientific officer in a statement.
