Creo Medical Group PLC (AIM:CREO) said the first upper gastrointestinal (GI) procedure in Europe has been carried out using the company's Speedboat Inject, a breakthrough endoscopic device.
Dr Adolfo Parra-Blanco, a surgeon at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust, removed a 7cm x 5cm cancerous lesion from a patient's stomach in a little under two hours. The procedure was performed en bloc, meaning that the lesion was removed in one piece.
The patient was discharged from hospital shortly after the procedure.
A second physician at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust is now also trained to use Speedboat Inject for upper GI procedures. The trust is planning to run further training courses in the coming months.
