Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is set to announce another round of layoffs, targeting salaried workers in the United States.
According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, the cuts will primarily impact employees in Ford's electric vehicle and software divisions, as well as those working in the gas-engine sector.
This news comes after a previous round of layoffs in August last year, which affected approximately 3,000 white-collar and contract workers.
Additionally, Ford had previously announced plans to eliminate 3,800 jobs in Europe earlier this year.
A Ford spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal that these actions are part of the company's ongoing efforts to align their global staffing with future business plans and remain cost competitive in an evolving industry.
Ford now joins other automakers such as General Motors and Stellantis in implementing layoffs as they navigate the changing landscape. The company aims to prioritize its focus on electric vehicle production and has committed to investing $50 billion globally by 2026 to support this new direction.
Shares of the vehicle company were down 0.9% in New York at US$14.07 midday Friday.
