Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon among the most-Googled stocks in the UK

But which blue chip has been the best performer of 2023?

CMC Markets has released its latest report into the Googling habits of UK investors researching US-listed stocks.

No second guesses for which company came out on top. Electric vehicle titan Tesla Inc took the lead, with an average of 260,180 Google searches per month in the UK.

As a matter of fact, technology companies took all the top spots.

In second place was Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB), formerly known as Facebook. Despite an oft-ridiculed pivot to metaverse-based technology, Meta netted an average of 84,310 searches per month.

Nvidia Corporation, the GPU giant and large-cap AI play, took bronze with 58,250 monthly searches.

Google parent Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) came in fourth with 35,840 monthly searches while e-commerce megacorporation Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) came in fifth with 27,720 searches per month.

A CMC MArkets spokesperson said: “Technology companies are prominent among the UK’s most googled stocks, and as the focus on artificial intelligence continues to intensify, it will be interesting to see how each company’s share price fluctuates depending on how they react to advances in the technology, and how it might disrupt their respective industries.”

Of these five stock picks, Nvidia has given investors the tidiest returns in 2023 by a mile.

Year to date, Nvidia is up nearly 200%, almost unheard of for a blue chip. This has brought Nvidia into the one-trillion-dollar crew for the first time.

Tesla and Meta have not exactly underperformed either, rallying 138% and 127% this year respectively.

Amazon is currently 50% higher while Alphabet is in last place at 37% year to date.
