A new series of rail strikes will affect two Ashes tests, Wimbledon and the Open Golf championship next month, rail union RMT has confirmed.
Up to 20,000 station staff, train managers and caterers will take action over three days starting 20 July and including 22 and 29 June.
An overtime ban by Aslef train drivers is also planned for six days from Monday July 3 to Saturday July 8.
Wimbledon starts on 3 July. The Open starts in Liverpool on 20 July, while tests matches are scheduled for 19 July and 27 July.
The RMT rejected the latest offer from train operators, accusing them and government ministers of failing even to arrange meetings to try to resolve the dispute that has now been running for a year.
The Rail Delivery Group, which is negotiating on behalf of the fourteen train operators, said: “We have now made three offers that the RMT executive has blocked without a convincing explanation.
“We remain open to talks and we have said repeatedly that we want to give our people a pay rise, but until the union leadership and executive is united in what it wants and engages in good faith with the 30% shortfall in revenue the industry is continuing to grapple with post covid, it is difficult to move forward."
