Gander Gold Corp (CSE:GAND) said it has identified 14 high-priority target areas across its Gander North Project, a 485-square-kilometer area in Newfoundland, with some stretching up to 8 or 9 kilometers in length.
This development comes as Gander Gold aims to make a potential new gold discovery in an area where no previous drilling or systematic exploration has taken place.
To date, Gander Gold has completed 19 rotary air blast (RAB) holes in three of the target areas, with RAB drilling continuing as part of the company's first-ever exploration efforts. The drilling is focused on testing gold anomalies in the soil coinciding with prominent structures identified through airborne surveys and ground truthing exercises.
In a statement, the company's technical adviser, Shawn Ryan, expressed optimism about the progress made at Gander North, commenting: "Gander North has progressed remarkably since I first staked this virgin ground two-and-a-half years ago ahead of the 2021 Newfoundland Gold Rush. Textbook exploration methods have been applied at Gander North, creating the opportunity for the discovery of an entirely new gold trend on the island adjacent to the GRUB Line."
Gander Gold said it is combining various data sources, including airborne surveys, soil geochemistry, and geological mapping, to identify the most prospective areas for further investigation. The company is also implementing measures to minimize the environmental impact of its activities and manage costs efficiently.
Gander Gold's vice president of Exploration, Ian Fraser, highlighted the abundance of high-quality exploration targets in the Gander North Project.
He said: "Very anomalous soil geochemistry has been defined across nearly the entire Gander North Property, associated with very well-developed structure(s). Gander has developed a methodology to test these exploration targets and very much looks forward to results generated from the RAB drilling program which is being carried out on as many targets as possible this summer.
"A greater understanding of the sub-surface geology and geochemistry will be instrumental in targeting first-ever diamond drilling at Gander North."
Gander Gold is one of Newfoundland's largest claim holders targeting new high-grade gold discoveries with a current focus on the large Gander North, Mount Peyton and BLT (Botwood-Laurenceton-Thwart Island) projects where there has been very promising early exploration success. Other opportunities advancing through the pipeline are Cape Ray II, Carmanville, Gander South, Little River and Hermitage.
