Fireweed Metals has reported that its 2023 exploration program at its zinc-lead-silver Macmillan Pass project in Yukon, Canada is off to a “thrilling start” as its first three drill holes testing an area between the Boundary Main and Boundary West zones have intersected significant lead-zinc mineralization.
The first three drill holes targeted a gap in drilling between two of Fireweed’s best-ever drill holes at the Boundary zone, where the company believes there is the potential for a high-grade feeder zone target that could link the Boundary West and Boundary Main zones.
Hole NB23-003, which intersected 73 metres (m) of massive sulphide, is interpreted to be the first intersection of the conceptual feeder zone target, Fireweed said.
The 2023 program involves five drill rigs and 16,000m of planned drilling in two phases targeting step-outs at the Tom, Jason, and Boundary zones in addition to other areas of interest.
The second of the five drill rigs has now arrived at the site and has started drilling at the Tom deposit.
The company also highlighted that construction of its new 48-person, all-weather camp was progressing well, with commissioning and first occupants planned for the end of June.
Combined the existing and new camps will support Fireweed to complete its 2023 season objectives as it works to build out its Macmillan Pass camp to its approved capacity of 150 people, it said.
“We are very excited that we have hit zinc-lead mineralization in all our first three holes at Boundary Zone, stepping out from our discoveries in 2022,” Fireweed CEO Brandon Macdonald said in a statement.
“Progress has gone well on the 2023 exploration campaign with the first rig making very good production and we have capitalized on the relatively early snowmelt to mobilize a second rig ahead of schedule. The imminent completion of our new 48-person, all-weather camp will facilitate exploration in 2023 and beyond.”
