Avicanna sponsors new medical cannabis education campaign in Canada

Avicanna Inc (TSX:AVCN, OTCQX:AVCNF) has announced a sponsorship agreement with the Canadian Consortium for the Investigation of Cannabinoids (CCIC) to provide access to the Canadian Cannabis Syllabus (CCS).

The CCS is a continuing education course accredited by the University of Calgary's Office of Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development. The course will be made available to the Canadian medical community.

In a statement, Dr Karolina Urban, EVP of Medical Affairs at Avicanna expressed pride in sponsoring CCIC, commenting: "We believe that the CCS can be an effective tool to provide education for healthcare providers and provide information to support the adoption of medical cannabis by the medical community."

The CCS will be offered to healthcare providers as part of their practice, aiming to provide foundational knowledge and considerations for professionals interested in learning more about cannabis and cannabinoid products in clinical practice.

The course comprises nine modules covering various topics such as the endocannabinoid system, clinical use of cannabis in pain and non-pain conditions, health issues associated with cannabis use, drug interactions, and cannabis policy in Canada.

Dr Matthew Hill, CCIC executive director, emphasized the importance of accurate information about cannabis and its impact on the human body.

He said: "This relationship with Avicanna will help ensure the dissemination of accurate, scientifically valid and vetted information regarding the biology of cannabis and how it impacts the human body."

The CCIC is a Canadian not-for-profit corporation that focuses on promoting research and evidence-based education regarding the endocannabinoid system, therapeutic applications of cannabinoids, potential harms associated with cannabis use, and the impact of non-medical cannabis use on health and society.

Avicanna is dedicated to researching, developing, and commercializing evidence-based cannabinoid products for medical and pharmaceutical markets. With an established scientific platform and intellectual property portfolio, the company has contributed to the international commercialization of over thirty products in various market segments.
