The Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE) unveiled performance statistics for May 2023, which included listings from seven new companies, including one fundamental change of an existing issuer.
The total trading volume of CSE-listed securities was 1.25 billion shares and total trading value was $433 million.
During the month, CSE issuers also completed 73 financings that raised an aggregate of $61 million.
"The Canadian Securities Exchange is becoming increasingly attractive to existing and potential new issuers," CSE CEO Richard Carleton said in a statement.
"As we recently announced, all of our securities are now margin eligible, which brings significant benefits for issuers and the broader investment community.
“The Exchange also continues to strengthen with high-quality new listings across diverse industries. We are proud to have welcomed 44 new corporate listings to the CSE in the first five months of 2023, which is easily the most among Canadian stock exchanges.”
Margin eligibility
After the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization recently identified the CSE as an "acceptable exchange" under its margin eligibility rule, the exchange said investment dealers will have the choice to allow clients to hold CSE-listed securities in margin accounts, thus enhancing liquidity in these securities.
It noted that margin eligibility also reduces capital costs for investment dealers holding CSE-listed securities in firm inventory, reducing the cost of public offerings for issuers.
Mining and responsible investment events
The CSE said it attended the Critical Minerals Institute (CMI) Summit II, which took place in Toronto from June 14 to 15. The conference explored many important topics impacting the critical minerals industry, which is essential to the global economy's ongoing clean energy transition.
CEO Richard Carleton provided introductory remarks at the conference, which also featured leaders from CSE-listed companies including First Phosphate Corp. (CSE:PHOS), Molten Metals Corp. (CSE:MOLT), Appia Rare Earths & Uranium Corp. (CSE:API, OTCQB:APAAF), and Auxico Resources Canada Inc (CSE:AUAG, OTCQB:AUXIF).
In collaboration with Sparx Publishing Group, the exchange said it will host its first-ever Summit on Responsible Investment, which will take place at the Innovation Centre in Kelowna, British Columbia, on June 27.
Elsewhere, the CSE said it will be attending THE Mining Investment Event of the North in Quebec City on June 19 to 21, featuring a diverse group of mining companies at different stages of development, including numerous CSE-listed companies.
