Spotify is reportedly finally introducing a new paid subscription tier that will include high-fidelity (HiFi) audio years after the streaming service first announced its intention to add HiFi to its offering back in 2021.
According to a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter, the new tier, known as “Supremium” internally, will be the company’s most expensive subscription.
The plan could release later this year initially in non-US markets, the publication reported.
The pricing of Spotify’s HiFi tier was not mentioned, but there has been much speculation around this in the years since it was first announced because Spotify competitors Apple Music and Amazon Music currently offer HiFi as part of their standard subscription plans.
The company delayed the release of its HiFi offering after Amazon and Apple’s announcements, according to Bloomberg.
Additionally, the publication reported that Spotify is considering bundling its existing premium tier with access to audiobooks in the United States starting in October, and possibly earlier in other markets.
Access to audiobooks, which are currently sold separately, could be for a certain number of hours or titles.
Spotify declined Bloomberg’s request for comment.
